P. Leonardo da Silva Costa, CSSp. received recognition from the country of Bolivia for his prison ministry and promotion of human rights leading Prison Pastoral.
This recognition stems from an initiative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights assisted by the Ministry of Justice of Bolivia. In the presentation comments both Fr. Leonardo and the Catholic Church were honored as advocates for human and social development in the prison world.
Accepting the award Fr. Leonardo commented that “we still have a deficit in our country in terms of public policies for prevention, rehabilitation, family, social and labor insertion. This initiative is received as an opportunity to raise awareness, advocacy and unity for the common good, in terms of justice and human dignity.”
The event, held in the nation’s capitol La Paz, was attended by representatives of the United Nations and Justice and Human Rights Commissioners of Bolivia.
