GivingTuesday, taking place December 3, is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage giving and to celebrate generosity worldwide.
Every year, on GivingTuesday, millions of people across the globe (almost 60 countries) mobilize to show up, give back, and change their communities. The goal is to create a massive wave of generosity that lasts well beyond that day, and touches every person on the planet.
The Spiritans are part of this movement because our mission for more than 300 years has been to go to those who haven’t yet heard the message of the Gospel, to those whose needs are greatest, and to those who are oppressed.
Today’s Spiritan mission goes beyond pastoral services to deliver basic human needs. Ministering from the pulpit as well as in the soup kitchens, we are found working with the community to make change in the community – often in places where others are reluctant to go. In the United States and abroad, our efforts include education, parish ministry, teaching career skills, establishing medical services and schools, and working in refugee camps.
“It’s not just about one day of giving,” says John Gillespie, director of the Spiritan Office for Mission Advancement, based in Houston, Texas. “It’s about igniting the flames of mission and service in the hearts of our supporters, and inspiring a new generation of missionary spirit.”
Whether you donate time as part of our Advocates volunteer group, or help fund the critical, life-changing mission projects that help those most in need, you are making a difference.
Even just spreading the word about the Spiritans, and remembering our priests, brothers, and lay members as well as those whom we serve in your daily prayers will have a profound impact on the lives of others.
Thank you for joining us in this global giving movement that transcends borders and ideologies, to bring the entire world together in the spirit of generosity and giving.
