With a deep sense of loss and yet with gratitude to God, we announce the death of our confrere Bishop Vincent Ezeonyia, CSSp.
on 8th February 2015 at the age of 74, after 52 years of religious profession.
Vincent Ezeconyia was born on 5th April 1941 at Ukeh, in the diocese of Onitsha, Nigeria. He pronounced his first vows at the Holy Ghost Novitiate Awo-Omamma on 12th February 1962. He was ordained to the priesthood on 3rd August 1968 at Ukeh. He worked as Chaplain of the University of Nigeria Nsukka.
He was provincial of Nigeria-East in 1980 when he was elected as Assistant General under the mandate of Fr. Frans Timmermans, CSSp.
At the end of his mandate, he went back to Nigeria where he served as Director of the Spiritan Scholasticate, Enugu. In 1990, he was sent to Miami, USA for the service of Haitian refugees. On 2nd April of the same year, he was appointed the bishop of Aba(Nigeria) and ordained on 1st July 1990 at Umuahia.
We pray that God may grant him eternal rest. May God also console and strengthen the clergy and faithful of Aba Diocese as well as the Spiritans in Nigeria.
