On Sunday, February 8, 2015, the parish community of St. Edward the Confessor Parish in Baltimore gathered for a festive parish liturgy to install their newly appointed pastor, Fr. Honest Munishi, CSSp. Bishop Denis Madden, representing Archbishop William Lori, Archbishop of Baltimore, presided at the ceremony which marks the formal introduction and presentation of a newly appointed pastor to the faith community.
In addition to the large member of faithful from St. Edward’s and the Tanzanian faith community, present at the ceremony were Fr. Jeffrey Duaime, CSSp., US provincial of the Spiritans, Fr. Leonce Rambau, CSSp. of Tanzania, other religious priests, and Mrs. Liberata Mulamula, Ambassador of Tanzania to the United States.
Fr. Munishi was born in Moshi, Tanzania and has been assigned to the US Province since 2010. Ordained a Spiritan priest in 2000, he has had several pastoral ministry experiences which have prepared him well for his new assignment at St. Edward’s. From 2001-03, he was Assistant Pastor and then Pastor at St. Patrick Mission in Zimbabwe. He served as assistant Pastor at Holy Trinity Parish in Harare, Zimbabwe from 2003-05. He also served as the Bursar of the District of Zimbabwe. In 2005-06, he was the Pastor at St. James Parish, Chipinge, Zimbabwe. He also served as Manager for Missionary Spirit Travel in Arusha, Tanzania from 2006-10. In 2010, Father Munishi was assigned to the US Province to be part of a Spiritan team serving five parishes in eastern Arkansas: St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Helena, St. Francis of Assisi Church in Forrest City, St. John the Baptist Church in Brinkley, St. Andrew Church in Marianna, and St. Mary of the Lake Church in Horseshoe Lake. In September 2014, he was officially appointed Pastor of St. Edward Parish in Baltimore, MD.
The St. Edward Church family is blessed to have Fr. Honest Munishi, CSSp. as our pastor. He comes to us with many skills that will enable us to keep our focus on God as we continue to build a strong Christian community and to always reminds us “In Times Like These, There’s No Place Like Home.”
