During this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus uses the Parable of the Faithful Servant to challenge us to be watchful and alert disciples. Like Abraham, our patience and our faith will help us to trust God regardless of what comes.
Trust is crucial to faith because faith cannot be seen. The scripture says that we walk by faith and not by sight. Nevertheless, faith isn’t passive. We must be active and attentive to our faith. We must trust that God will do what he has promised. God will never abandon us.
We live in a time when people find it difficult to wait. Many of us want things to happen quickly. Our faith encourages us to wait. Sometimes we look for a quick-fix solution to many of the problems in our lives. Our faith tells us God will supply our needs. Jesus reminds us that no matter how long it takes, God is always faithful to his promises.
We must always be prepared no matter how long it takes for the Lord to come. When he returns, may he find us to be loving examples of his disciples. God is always on time.
