In today’s Gospel, Jesus affirms that God wants all of us to be saved. On our faith journey, we are called to follow Jesus through the “narrow door.” Jesus is the door opened to us all.
This image may give some of us the impression that the size of the door will prevent all of us to enter. However, Jesus points out that entering the “Narrow Door” is a choice not forced upon but a decision made and based on faith. Even the “Narrow Door” of God’s grace and mercy has room for all of us to enter.
As God gathers the people on his holy mountain, no one is left out. The Gospel of Luke (Chapter 13) says “And people will come from the east and the west and the north and the south and will recline at table in the kingdom of God.” Our gracious God never forgets his people and is always by our side waiting for us to come to him.
We are all daughters and sons of God. As we seek to walk the path of faith, even the problems and difficulties that we face cannot prevent us from entering the feast God has prepared. Our Christian journey of faith does take work on our part. The things that last are the things we do for Christ who opens his heart to us.
There is an African American hymn that says, “The road is rough and the going gets tough and the hills are hard to climb…but I've decided to make Jesus my choice.” The decision to follow Jesus, “the narrow door“ is not an easy choice. However, once the choice is made, we must continue to work as we move closer to God on our journey of faith.
