This Sunday, we hear of the widow who contributed a small coin, which was probably all she had to survive on. We are called to be for others as God has been for us, giving and not counting the cost.
The story of two different widows in today's Scripture is a powerful testament to the unwavering trust in God's providence. It is only through faith that we can give from our needs. These two widows gave from all that they had. They didn't give from their surplus but from all they had to survive, a true act of faith and trust in God's care.
It is one thing to give knowing that we have some extra, and it is a true sacrifice if this is our last coin, all we have. The story is often titled "The Widow's Might." Perhaps this refers to the widow's total dependence on God. When we trust God's care, we can give for our needs. Do we trust that God will supply our every need? This trust in God's care, this trust in His providence, should remind us of His love and care for us, and inspire us to give selflessly.
Many of us give from our surplus, but the true essence of giving lies in the heart. This act of giving not only benefits the recipient but also connects us to our community, fostering a sense of compassion and unity. We should reflect on the goodness that God has shared with us and let it inspire our giving, strengthening the bond within our community.
It is from our hearts that we are our most authentic selves. We must remember that all that we have comes from the Lord. Let us take this reflection into our daily lives, striving to be more giving and trusting in God's providence. This trust should inspire us and give us hope in our faith journey.
