In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us that he will always be with us. Jesus promises that the Holy Spirit will lead us and guide us throughout our lives. The Holy Spirit will be our advocate who will remind us of God’s abiding presence with us.
Our Christian life centers on the promise of Jesus that God will be with us throughout our life’s faith journey. We are reminded that God’s presence overcomes all fear and anxiety. With faith and love, we rely on the power of God to lift us out of our doubts and fears.
Our lives as Christians are shaped by love. Jesus’ new commandment is for us to love one another. Modeled on this love, people will know that we are followers of Jesus Christ. We must not be troubled or afraid for God is with us.
Jesus prepares his disciples for his farewell after his resurrection. As we prepare for Pentecost, today's Gospel points us to the coming of the promised Holy Spirit who will be our comforter and advocate. This Holy Spirit will come into our troubled and broken world bringing us the gift of peace and love.
