The scriptures tell us that there is always a time to do what is right! Today’s Gospel tells of the Parable of the Good Steward. We are all stewards of God’s possessions and are called to be honest and care for the poor and the strangers.
In the way we care for others, people will know that we are God’s followers. As Christ has been for us, we must be the same for one another. The best way to be restored to the right relationship with God is by our love. When our wealth is gone and there is no more money, who will we serve? We must serve God.
The dishonest steward discovered the power of love and concern for the poor only when he was about to lose his “power” position. Serving God alone is better than serving wealth. We can’t serve both. It often takes difficult situations to make us realize that the power of love and the change that it brings to our lives can make us better people.
We must show concern for all people. We must not count the cost nor exploit others but be honest in the way that we deal with each other. This will make us authentic. This is not always easy but it is our call. Maybe this is why people are able to recognize Christians by our love.
