This Sunday is the Thirty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time or last Sunday of the Church (Liturgical) year, when we celebrate the Feast of the Solemnity of Jesus Christ the King of the Universe. In the Gospel, Pilate asks Jesus if he is a king?
The Book of Revelation tells us that Jesus Christ is the Alpha and the Omega! He is the one who is and who was and who is to come. This celebration reminds us that Jesus is our King who comes to move us in the direction of the love of God and neighbor. Our faith and its liturgical practices proclaim to a world hungry for meaning that Jesus comes into our history to draw us back to God and show us what it truly means to be human. Jesus is the King of our lives.
As we prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving Day in the United States, how have we received God's blessings in this past year? How do we speak to others about our faith in Jesus? How do we hear God’s voice? How many times have we missed an opportunity to invite people to experience joy in serving God and our neighbors?
Each year, Thanksgiving Day takes on a different meaning in our families and our society. We recognize that Jesus’ invitation to us is to be thankful in every situation. There are always members of our families to whom we must reach out in love. There are always situations that isolate us from each other.
In Jesus Christ, the King of the Universe, the world is being made new. Today we are called to witness and proclaim that Jesus is the King of our lives. It is only by God's grace and mercy that we are here today. Never give up but hold on to Jesus' invitation to be with him always.
