HOUSTON, TX
At the invitation of then Bishop Wendelin E. Nold, the Congregation of the Holy Spirit arrived in the diocese of Galveston-Houston in 1970.
Over the following 45 years the Spiritans have served as teachers at St. Mary’s Seminary, University of St. Thomas, St. Pius High School and Rice University. They have been chaplains at both the University of Houston and Rice University and at Villa de Matel. They served as pastors of St. Benedict the Abbot, St. Philip Neri, Saints Peter & Paul, St. Mary’s and St. Francis Assisi Parishes. They have also ministered to St. Theresa and St. Michael Parishes, and the DeBakey V.A. Medical Hospital. Additionally, they operate the Spiritan Office for Mission Advancement , and a Spiritan Father heads the Center for Faith & Culture at the University of St. Thomas.
