Update: The Spiritan Stamp Bank, run by Fr. Neil McQuillan, C.S.Sp., has set a new record for fundraising! This year, the stamp bank broke 10,000 (gross) in sales! By the grace of God and the support of many benefactors, volunteers and those who have sent us the used postal stamps that arrive on their letters, these funds can help support Spiritan Missionaries!
This is the story of how a learning project turned into a creative way to support Spiritan Missionaries!
Fr. Neil McQuillan, C.S.Sp. collects commemorative stamps, organizes them, and sells them. He then sends the funds directly to Spiritan Missionaries.
If you have any used commemorative stamps to Spiritan Stamp Bank, 6921 Chetwood Dr., Houston, TX 77081
Transcript: I'm Father Neil McQuillan, Vicar here at Holy Ghost Parish in Houston and I brought with me from my former parish a Stamp Bank. It's our way of trying to support our missionaries by something that most people throw away, used stamps. If you get a letter keep the stamp. Even if it's canceled that's fine. Some people actually want more of the cancel mark than the stamp itself. Filter them to us we organize them and resell them.
How did we get into this? I was working in a formation house with young men studying to be priests and we often got letters from missionaries from around the world and so someone suggested we keep the stamps and organize them. It was a way of learning about the countries the missionaries were in.
All the profit goes to at this point three missionaries that I personally know and have visited the works they're doing. So it's for the missionary himself. It's not necessary... he can use it for the work if he wants but it's nice to get a little donation and you have full discretion of what you're going to use it for and you don't have to give any reports or anything. You know, just the fact that I know someone who's doing great work overseas is feeling supported.
