Fr. Adrien Hebert, C.S.Sp., of Bethel Park, a member of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit, died peacefully on March 19, 2018, at Marian Manor, Greentree, Pennsylvania after a brief illness. He was 86 years old.
Fr. Hebert was born April 29, 1931 in Acushnet, Massachusetts. He professed his vows as a member of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit on August 22, 1954 at Holy Ghost Novitiate in Ridgefield, Connecticut and was ordained to the Priesthood June 4, 1958 at St. Mary’s Seminary, Ferndale in Norwalk, Connecticut.
Father was first appointed to the District of Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. He served in various ministries teaching at St. James Seminary in Moshi and Oldonyu Sombu in Arusha. During his 30 plus years in Tanzania, he established 16 small mission outstations and built three churches, two mission houses and two small medical dispensaries. In 1996, he was sent to South Africa to help the German Province at Vrede parish in the Bethlehem Diocese and Pomoroy in the Dundee Diocese. He was involved in parochial ministry and was the Director of Postulency. In his last few years in South Africa he was chaplain to the Sisters of St. Paul at Mmabahloki Clara Home. In 2016, Father retired to the Spiritans’ retirement home at Libermann Hall in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.
Fr. Hebert was preceded in death by his parents, Adelard and Melina Laliberte Hebert, and his brother, Joseph Hebert.
There will be viewing in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel at the Spiritan Center, 6230 Brush Run Road, Bethel Park on Friday, March 23, 2018 from 9:00-10:45 am with the Funeral Mass being celebrated at 11:00 am. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, O’Hara Twp. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
