The Feast Day of Spiritan founder Claude Poullart des Places was even more meaningful this year for several Lay Spiritans, who renewed their commitment during a meaningful ceremony at the Spiritan Center in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.
On October 2, Debbie Zugates made her permanent commitment as a Lay Spiritan, and Carol Serafin, Tom Berna, and Janet Berna renewed their commitment during a special Mass celebrated by Fr. Bill Christy, C.S.Sp.
Following Mass, a reception was held as priests, brothers, Lay Spiritans, and friends enjoyed fellowship together in celebration of the Feast Day and the recommitment ceremony.
Lay Spiritans are "inspired laity," women and men who are moved by the Holy Spirit to live the Spiritan charism. Candidates engage in a two-year formation program including personal and communal discernment. They may a commitment that is publicly celebrated and can be renewed every three years, possibly leading to a permanent commitment.
We are blessed to have these women and men carrying out the Spiritan charism of living open to the Spirit, committing to authentic relationships, and walking with those on the margins.
