On this 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Jesus invites us to participate in the vineyard of the Lord. As we respond to God’s invitation to grow, we discover many obstacles that prevent our growth. The seed of faith is already planted in our hearts. How have we allowed this seed to grow?
Today’s Gospel tells us that the Sower planted the seeds among different types of soils. The rocky, the shallow, and the good soil are always present. However, it is the good soil that we seek. The Gospel of Matthew asks us to open our eyes, ears, and understanding to search for that place where our faith can grow and flourish.
We know that God is always working to bring out the best in us. This parable is asking us to reflect on our understanding of the Kingdom of God and how it can bear fruit in our lives. We must prepare the soil of our faith for growth. The shallow, and rocky grounds can be tiled and weeded so that growth can happen. God is directing us toward growth. Even though our faith may not be grounded and rooted as it should be, we are not lost. We may even be swayed away from our faith, but God is with us.
Growth is a process. If we are making progress, just little steps, we can experience growth. As we face the obstacles of life, we can still thrive. Holding on to God’s promises which lead and guide us, we can make good fruit. We must respond to God’s invitation to grow as we work towards building fertile soil where our faith and thrive.
