This Sunday’s scripture poses two things to us. The first is a question, “Lord, to whom shall we go? The second is a statement, “Choose whom you will serve.” On many levels, these two points are fundamental to all believers. We find the answer to both points in the scripture itself. God has the words of everlasting life.
This past week has been filled with examples of when we have been challenged to make these same points. The ongoing Coronavirus pandemic can make us ask, “Lord, to whom shall we go?” The situations people endure daily in countries around the world can make us ask, “to whom shall we go?” The country of Haiti just endured the assassination of its president followed by an earthquake, followed by a hurricane. We ask, “Lord, to whom shall we go?”
Like believers throughout time, we must not give up but trust in God’s word which gives life. The same God who walked with us back then is the same God who is holding us together now. When we look back over our lives and see how many times God has blessed us, delivered us, strengthened us, we can’t help but say we choose to serve God.
It is amazing what so many people have endured and never gave up on God and who never gave up hope. This is not because they are stronger than others. They saw that their situation changed them to know that they are never alone and that miracles happens everyday. God is a good God!
God doesn’t make these bad things happen to us but God gives us the strength to go through our situations. God is with us through it all. The psalmist tells us, “Taste and see that God is good.” No matter what we are going through, we have the blessed assurance that God is with us. The scripture says, “Far be it for us to forsake God. As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.”
