As we approach the end of the Lenten season, the Scriptures remind us that new life is possible from death. Dying to ourselves and focusing on God brings unspeakable joy to our weary souls. Jesus says to death, “Untie him and let him go free.” What is the new life that we are being called to experience?
The images of Lazarus being raised from the dead and a grain of Wheat falling and dying make it clear that God has the final word and offers life to us all. Death cannot stop God’s love from reaching us. As Jesus continues his journey to Jerusalem, we are invited to walk with him to experience the depth of his love for us.
As we review our lives and the moments when we have experienced difficulties, pain, or loss, we also experience new life, new vision, and new hope. At moments of difficulty, we look at Jesus’ example to find life in whatever we may be experiencing. Like Lazarus and the grain of Wheat, we know that we will rise again.
Jesus’ presence in this world is to give glory to God. As we continue our journey toward Holy Week, let us remember that Christ suffered, died, and rose again so that we might not perish but have life eternally.
