Today, the church celebrates the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord. This feast commemorates Jesus taking his disciples, Peter, James, and John, up on a mountain top where Moses and Elijah appears at the time Jesus was transfigured before them. (Mark 9:2–13; Matthew 17:1–13; Luke 9:28–36). Tradition says that Moses and Elijah appearing beside Jesus symbolizes that Jesus is the successor of these biblical person representing the law and the prophets. The voice of God announces that Jesus “is my beloved son, listen to him.”
