All human beings experience worry and burdens at some point in our lives. On this 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Jesus encourages us to allow him to give us comfort during the storms in our lives.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus continues his conversation about discipleship. As we follow Jesus, we can become overwhelmed and feel burdened. Jesus understands that we all will need rest.
Burdens can give us a sense of hopelessness. Jesus wants to refresh us, comfort us, and give us rest. In carrying out the responsibility of sharing the good news, Jesus invites us to come to him. We often carry worries, doubts, and disappointments, but Jesus reaches out his hands to help us lift our burdens.
No matter what burdens or worries we may be carrying in our personal lives, we must lay down our burdens. The transforming aspect of the Gospel will lead us to rest. Learning from Jesus, and being connected to him, any yoke we are carrying becomes easy. What burdens are you willing to allow Jesus to carry with you?
