On Saturday June 2, 2018 the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Jalingo, Most Rev. Charles Hammawa, blessed a classroom block at the Spiritan Youth Resource Centre, Chonku, Taraba State, Nigeria  and also dedicated the Daniel Bertoia Adoration Chapel built at the youth Centre during which where he called on the faithful to make their contribution to the building of society.

The bishop also said what was beginning at the Spiritan Youth Resource Centre was seed planting of which in some years to come, would become a very big tree. He recalled that when he first came to the site of the Centre in the year 2015 it was a bush but now the property has structures in place and that there was a need to give thanks to God for hearing our prayer.

He acknowledged the Spiritans for the great role they are playing in the evangelization of the people of the area, and he thanked Fr. Kuha Indyer, CSSp., for committing his life to the growth of the faith and youth development.

In closing the Bishop called on all to contribute to the building of the nation lamenting the fact that sometimes we stand aside and ask: what is the government, church or chief doing? He tasked all to contribute to the growth of the society as ‘no matter how little our contribution may seem to be, it will contribute to the growth of the society.’

In reference to Daniel Bertoai, in whose memory the chapel is built, Fr. James Akpagher, CSSp., Spiritan Provincial said that though Daniel lived a very short life, he left a legacy that will make his name remembered for years to come, and he called on the faithful who had gathered for the event to live lives that would leave positive legacies at the end of their lives on earth

The Chapel is situated at the center of the Resource Centre, to demonstrate the centrality of Christ in the lives of Christians. It will be open to all who would like to come to the serene village of Chonku to spend time with the Lord in prayer either as individuals, families or groups.

Fr. Indyer, the projects coordinator, again, expressed his appreciation to the sponsors –World Mercy Fund/Barmherkeigzeit, Austria/Germany and the family of Daniel Bertoia.
